We’re dotty about our limited edition Spotty Bears.
Spotty dots are made from the softest dorper sheep skins. We were offered a batch of spotty dorper skins by our Australian sheepskin supplier, Peter, from Australian Sheepskin Distributors.
What’s a Dorper skin you ask?
Dorper sheep were originally bred in the arid regions of South Africa in the 1930’s. The breed was imported into Australia in the mid 1990’s. The sheep’s suitability to a range of climatic conditions and low maintenance has seen the Dorper develop into one of the largest meat sheep breeds in Australia.
Dorper sheep skin has a unique colour and textural variation. The colour palette ranges from rich cream through taupe and coffee shades to deep chocolate and black. The colours feature in combinations of blotches, spots and speckles, making every skin a natural, original work of art.
The spotty skins in a range of browns, tans and white colours sounded like fun, we jumped at them! The first batch arrived, the skins were gorgeous, soft and spotty. The team jumped into action and quickly cut into small basil patterns. We managed to cut seventy bears from the first batch of skins and launched out Limited Edition Spotty range of Tambo Teds.
The first sixty-nine sold in less than a week, we quickly grabbed number 1 and popped him up on our limited edition shelf.
We hate to disappoint, so when Peter messaged to say he had some more spotty skins available, we grabbed them! Gorgeously soft and pliable, they make the most beautiful bears. Spotty’s have flown out the door again, a most popular bear. Fortunately customers who missed out last time have been able to grab one for their collection.
The first ‘batch’ had white numbers on black tags and the second batch has black numbers on white tags. Still popular, seventeen Spotties arrived in Tambo and within a week we were left with one.
But don’t worry, more are on their way, but there is a limit – only around 45 left on Australia Day.
