Tambo Teddies Celebrates Queensland Manufacturing Month 🧸
September is Queensland Manufacturing Month, a statewide celebration of the skills, innovation, and dedication that make Queensland’s manufacturing industry so important. This year, Tambo Teddies is honoured to be in the spotlight, showcasing how regional businesses contribute to building strong communities and a stronger state economy.
From 1993 to Today: A Proud Legacy
The very first Tambo Teddy was created in 1993 in Tambo, Queensland, born out of resilience and ingenuity. When wool prices crashed in the early 1990s, our founders looked for a way to support wool growers and create a brand-new industry for the region. The solution? Handcrafted teddy bears made from beautiful Australian wool, a product that carried the story of the outback to the world.
Fast forward to today, and we (Alison & Tammy) have proudly carried on this legacy since 2014. From the heart of Tambo, we’ve continued to uphold the same quality and care in every teddy bear, ensuring that each one remains as special as the very first.
Growing Stronger: Regional Manufacturing in Action
Tambo Teddies hasn’t just survived — we have thrived. We’ve expanded beyond Tambo with a second store in Toowoomba, home to our Regional Sewing Hub, which plays a vital role in Queensland’s regional manufacturing footprint.
Here, our bears are lovingly handmade by talented local artisans, including refugees who have found not just employment but also a sense of belonging and pride in contributing to an iconic Queensland product.
This is manufacturing with heart: creating jobs, supporting communities, and continuing the story of innovation that began three decades ago.
Queensland Manufacturing Month: Shining a Spotlight
Queensland Manufacturing Month highlights the incredible talent across the state. As Minister for Manufacturing Dale Last said:
“Queensland Manufacturing Month is the perfect time to highlight innovation across the sector and promote jobs to the next generation of Queenslanders.”
The State Government recognises that manufacturing is a key economic driver for Queensland, delivering practical measures to unlock potential, create more jobs, and build a stronger economy and lifestyle for Queenslanders.
Tambo Teddies is proud to represent the “Not just Australian Made, but Queensland Made” spirit.
Looking Ahead
From the very first teddy in 1993 to our bustling workshops today, Tambo Teddies is proof that regional businesses can shape industries, inspire communities, and take Queensland craftsmanship to the world.
This Manufacturing Month, we celebrate not only our own journey but the incredible achievements of Queensland’s manufacturing sector, a story of resilience, innovation, and pride.
✨ Every teddy we make carries a little piece of Queensland’s, stitched with care, tradition, and the promise of a bright future.
