Queensland Community Achievement Awards

Tambo Teddies were proud to be a finalist in the Queensland Community Achievement Awards last Friday, November 29th. Tammy and Alison travelled to Brisbane to attend the gala event at Royal on the Park in Brisbane.

Teddies were one of four finalists in the Small Business Achievement category which recognises the essential contribution makes to Queensland. Small business creates jobs and sustainable communities that contribute to regional prosperity and a stronger economy. The Queensland Government Small Business Achievement Award acknowledges and highlights the success and accomplishments of the successful finalists.

Amongst the group of finalists were three stand-out ventures who are all doing exceptional things in their communities.

Phoenix Security Systems from Mt Isa is an indigenous owned security firm delivering a range of security products. Securing private homes, small businesses and larger companies,  the company also provides event security and personal protection services.

From the far north of Queensland, Strait Support provides sustainable employment and training opportunities for indigenous job seekers. The company is a provider of labour hire, plant hire, fencing and building construction projects. A regional business that is owned by a Torres Strait Islander employing Torres Strait Islanders delivering a structured pathway to successful employment.

Closer to the big smoke, Tom and Ann’s Restaurant Deli in Yarrabilba takes pride in using local produce. Showcasing seasonally fresh produce and locally made deli products, the owners work with local businesses to provide a sense of community wiht their service.

We weren’t winners this time, but were delighted to be noticed amongst this group of exceptional business ventures. We were proud to rub shoulders with Shane Lui, owner of Strait Support and the category winner. Shane was out pick to take out the awards!

Strait Support is an amazing initiative, a dynamic business and concept making a real difference in the community of the far north. This award is recognition of Shane’s entrepreneurial spirit, passion for his community , dedication and hard work.

The Gala was an evening of spent networking, meeting some outstanding community leaders and enjoying their amazing stories. Great food, music and company, an awards evening with it all!
