At Tambo Teddies – we care about the environment.
At Tambo Teddies we care about the environment and are committed to ensuring our manufacturing processes are as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible.
Core to our commitment is our use of sheepskin, sheepskin is a sustainable product. Renewable and biodegradable, sheepskin is a natural material derived from sheep, which is a renewable resource. Sheepskin is biodegradable, meaning it can break down naturally over time, reducing its impact on the environment.
Sheepskin is primarily a byproduct of the meat industry. When sheep are raised for meat consumption, their skins are often processed into sheepskin products as part of the utilization of the entire animal. Utilizing the skin helps minimize waste and ensures that multiple resources are derived from the same animal.
Compared to synthetic materials, the production of sheepskin typically has a lower environmental impact. Synthetic materials often require extensive energy and resource use during their manufacturing processes, whereas sheepskin is a natural and less energy-intensive product. The tanning and processing of sheepskin can be done using environmentally friendly methods, further reducing the environmental footprint.
Further to our use of sheepskin we use a recycled material to ‘stuff’ our bears. Our stuffing is made from re-cycled plastic milk bottles – you’d never recognise it!
Using a recycled material has many benefits and helps to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills or incinerators. It helps to save energy, producing goods from recycled materials often requires less energy compared to using virgin materials. The recycling process generally generates fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to manufacturing products from scratch.
Further to our efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of our manufacturing process we also ensure our packaging is environmentally friendly and/or recyclable. We packaged our bears in cotton bags that are reusable, provide reusable shopping bags or recycled paper bags, and our mailing boxes are made from recycled cardboard.
Overall, at Tambo Teddies we try to incorporate recycled materials and use sustainable materials into our production processes. We are committed to good resource management, waste reduction and energy savings, ultimately trying to do our ‘bit’ for environmental protection.
BUT, we have to fess up – we do like to pop the heater on during the cold winters in Tambo and Toowoomba.
