Road Trip Anyone? Head to Tambo!

Are you considering a road trip this year? Well, we recommend you head to Tambo! Hook-up the caravan, camper trailer, pack your swag or just pack a bag and head out our way.

Come and discover this little gem of the Outback……..you might think we are all about Teddy Bears BUT there is so much more!

There are plenty of places to stay, you can park your van at Stubby Bend, the Mill Caravan Park or at the Tambo Caravan Park. Book a room at the Tambo Tavern, the Mill Motel or if you feel like a country pub experience check in at the Royal Carrangarra. Everyone’s ready to give you a welcome so why not book for a couple of days.

Tambo is the home of Teddy Bears, the outback capital – in fact we don’t know of any other towns in Australia that can claim to be the home of Teddy Bears! So of course any visit to Tambo, a stop at Tambo Teddies is a must! You can get your very own travelling companion, gifts for friends and family, or just a little souvenir.

One of the best things about a small town is it’s not far to anything – you can walk everywhere! There are a couple of interesting walks, you can stroll the banks of the Barcoo River along the Coolibah Walk or grab a brochure from the Visitor Information Centre and learn about our old buildings as you follow the historical walk .

The oldest town in the west, Tambo was the first town with a Post and Telegraph office. These buildings are heritage listed and volunteers open them during the winter months. Call in and have chat with a local, try your hand at morse code and learn more about this little town that punches well above its weight.

If art is your thing (and even if it’s not) the Grassland Art Gallery is worth a visit, this contemporary building showcases local and regional art works in a changing program of exhibition, the gallery also has a range of beautifully crafted giftware available.

Another must do is attend the Chicken Races, held every evening at the Royal Carrangarra Hotel, we won’t say too much as that might just spoil the surprise!

Tambo is a pretty town the community takes great pride in, there is always ‘something on’ and loads to do. Make sure you plan to stay a night or two on your next road trip out west. Travelling with the kids? It is probably a good idea to get them their very own travelling companion before you leave.
