Celebrating Wool Month 2024 - Honouring the Natural Wonder of Wool
Wool Month 2024, part of the Campaign for Wool, is a global celebration dedicated to raising awareness about the many benefits of wool. This wonderful, renewable material has been valued for centuries for its sustainability, durability, and versatility—and at Tambo Teddies, we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate!
Wool is the foundation of everything we do, and Wool Month is the perfect time to highlight why wool is so important to our handcrafted creations and how it connects us to Australia’s rich heritage.
Why Wool Matters to Tambo Teddies
At Tambo Teddies, our bears and animal companions are made from Australian woollen sheepskin, which are not only naturally soft and durable but also sustainable. Wool is biodegradable, renewable, and eco-friendly, making it one of the most ethical materials we can use. For us, Wool Month is a time to showcase how this remarkable fibre brings warmth and comfort to our iconic teddies, while supporting Australia’s wool industry.
Wool has long been part of the Australian story, and we’re proud to contribute to that legacy by creating products that are both environmentally conscious and deeply connected to our outback roots.
The Campaign for Wool was launched in 2010 to educate consumers about the benefits of wool and help to support and grow the wool industry. Run by a coalition of industry groups convened by His Majesty King Charles III, when he was The Prince of Wales, the Campaign works to engage consumers through exciting fashion, interiors and artisan activities centring around Wool Month each year.
The global endeavour initiated by its Patron, in order to raise awareness about the unique, inherent natural, renewable and biodegradable benefits offered by the fibre in everyday life. And importantly, that wool not only biodegrades in soil, adding nutrients back to the earth, but it also biodegrades in the ocean and water and therefore leaving no impact on the planet with microfibre and plastic pollution.
“It is important to remind people of how valuable and sustainable wool is as a fibre and as a natural material. Wool is a product that the most brilliant boffin in the most hi-tech laboratory could never create.”
His Majesty King Charles III, quoted when he was His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Patron Campaign for Wool
The Campaign for Wool is jointly funded by some of the world’s largest woolgrower organisations including British Wool, Cape Wools, New Zealand Campaign for Wool and The Woolmark Company.
