Buy from the Bush QLD

Tambo Teddies are proud to be associated with the Buy from the Bush QLD movement.

Founder Kerri Brennan created a facebook page mid 2018 to support farmers and rural businesses by encouraging people to buy directly from them! Initially aiming to support landowners trying to generate extra income with a sideline business, Kerri soon discovered the need for support was much wider.

Discovering the businesses in the towns she visited were struggling as much as the farmers on the land, Kerri has made it her crusade to do what she can to help. Sharing the stories of business in regional Queensland, Buy from the Bush QLD is highlighting the diverse range of products on our doorstep.

In December 2019, Kerri held events in Toowoomba and Goondiwindi to allow regional business owners to share their stories. Battler Bushy joined the team and travelled alongside, a bear on a mission. Tambo Teddies were only to happy to support this initiative creating Battler Bushy as the movement’s mascot.

The story of our little business and its humble beginnings is completely aligned with Buy from the Bush movement. Teddies was started in the middle of a drought when everyone on the land was struggling with a devastated wool industry. Our business was started to generate employment, help stimulate our local economy and support our town to survive.

The current drought situation is so similar, it is biting hard across Queensland. The impacts of this continuing drought are really dreadful, we are seeing regional towns and communities slowly die. Initiatives such as Buy from the Bush QLD are so important to turn this around and help regional communities to survive.

A reletively simple concept of promotion to attract expenditure in regional areas, the initiative is targetting our city cousins to support our regional businesses. At Tambo Teddies we completely understand this concept. Since Alison and Tammy purchased the business they have been working to expand online attracting money into the region. These days rather than being reliant on local expenditure and passing traffic, Teddies main revenue stream comes from outside the region.

Support and promotion from Kerri and her Buy from the Bush QLD campaign can help other businesses and regions. Businesses can shift their customer base and attract expenditure from outside their locality.

Battler Bushy will be joining Kerri and her team in March when they head out west on a month long road trip sharing local business stories. Kerri and Bushy will be visiting towns from St George through to Longreach and Cloncurry, returning via Emerald and Kingaroy. A stop in Tambo is planned for Monday March 2nd. We are excited to be helping Kerri share the stories of our local bush businesses.
